The European Commission (EC) – funded LIFE Programme RENOVERTY project has recently published a report entitled “Updating the energy poverty and energy efficiency framework in rural areas across the EU” aiming to upgrade the framework on rural and peri-urban efficiency and energy poverty.
The overarching objective of the report is to provide a robust and up-to-date framing of energy poverty and efficiency in rural and peri-urban areas across Europe. The latter is achieved following a multi-step approach based on (i) an extensive desk research, to review current knowledge and practice in energy poverty research and policy, (ii) a European-wide stakeholder survey to gain insights on existing needs, barriers and solutions for the implementation of energy efficiency policies in rural contexts, (iii) the development of an indicator to systematically assess energy poverty in vulnerable rural areas, and (iv) the conduction of more than 60 energy audits in rural areas across 7 different Central Eastern, Southern, and Eastern European countries to gain a detailed and comprehensive overview of the rural building stock.
We recently produced a series of 3 factsheets that summarise the main results from this report:
-
Factsheet n°1: Energy Poverty and Energy Efficiency in Rural Areas: Desk-Research Findings
-
Factsheet n°2: Energy Poverty and Energy Efficiency in Rural Areas : Stakeholder Survey Findings
-
Factsheet n°3: Energy Poverty and Energy Efficiency in Rural Areas: Regional results
