Dr. Vassilis Stavrakas is a Senior Research Associate at the Technoeconomics of Energy Systems laboratory (TEESlab) at the University of Piraeus (UNIPI) in Greece. He also is Co-founder of the Institute for European Energy and Climate Policy (IEECP), where he serves as Financial Director/Treasurer.
He holds a Bachelor (BSc) and a Master’s (MSc) degree in Mechanical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA, 8.36/10 equivalent to first- 5% ranking according to academic performance) and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in the area of modelling and simulation methods in support of low-carbon energy systems (pursued under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Alexandros Flamos in UNIPI).
He has been working for several years now in the fields of energy system modelling, energy planning and management, business model innovation, and low-carbon transition pathways and scenario development, in the context of public- and private-funded research projects, while he also has more than 10 years of experience working in European Commission-funded projects (i.e., FP7, IEE, Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe, and LIFE).
He has published more than 30 papers in high-impact international scientific journals (peer-reviewed) and international conferences and has been invited as a speaker at major international energy policy events (e.g., EUSEW, COP-side events, etc.) and prestigious academic and research conferences (e.g., ECEMP/EMP-E, SDEWES, etc.). He also is an Editorial Board Member at the “Energy Sources, Part B: Economics, Planning, and Policy (ESPB)” scientific journal (Taylor & Francis Group).
