Cities are the main contributors to pollution and climate change, but they could, also, become a real driving force of the energy transition exceeding EU targets towards climate neutrality by 2050. This step-up can be enhanced by improving the cities’ capacities concerning financing and implementing their sustainable energy and climate plans, effectively accelerating reaching the climate and energy targets.
In this scope, our Horizon 2020 PROSPECT+ project is participating in two online events that will take place next week that focus on how local authorities can identify innovative financing schemes and instruments for their energy and climate projects.
More specifically, the ePlanetH2020 project and the Centre for Renewable Energy Sources and Saving (CRES) are organising a webinar in Greek on “Innovative financing schemes for energy saving projects in buildings”. The webinar will take place on February 7 at 12:00-14:00 CET. During this webinar, representatives from 5 European research projects (REFINE, SMAFIN, PRODESA, PROSPECT+) will share their experience and knowledge about financing tools and best practices to improve energy efficiency in buildings. From our TEESlab, Sophia Theodoropoulou will provide insights from the PROSPECT+ Capacity Building Programme on how to empower the capacities of municipalities and regions to employ innovative financing tools.

The next webinar in February is organised by the Institute for European Energy and Climate Policy Foundation (IEECP) entitled “The tool is cool: instruments and solutions for effective energy and climate planning – EU online roundtable”. The online event will take place on February 8 at 10:00-12:00 CET. This event aims to present some tools from three EC funded projects (IN-PLAN, Regio1st, PROSPECT+) which can help the local actors make significant steps towards climate neutrality and foster discussion between stakeholders from different levels of governance: from regional authorities, national governments and European institutions. From our TEESlab, Sophia Theodoropoulou will present the PROSPECT+ Recommendations- Decision Matrix Tool, a practical and easy-to-use tool, free and accessible to all local and regional authorities and their implementing agencies, who are looking at ways to increase or diversify their funding base and the Finance Readiness Tool.
